I love to cook, my friends and family have always told me I had a real talent for it. I had a group of signature dishes that everyone always wanted to be on hand for when I made them.

Then I was lucky enough to get the chance to meet a very special family of people from Santa Fe, Texas, who have taken my time in the kitchen to a whole new level of enjoyment, Bill and Barb Powell, makers of Texas Select Seasonings Spice blends and salsas!

I could spend a great deal of time talking about the quality of the kosher grade spices, open a shaker and the quality is apparent in the aroma that fills your kitchen! I could talk about how there are no preservatives or MSG, and all the blends are PURE, very low sodium or no sodium. Heck, I could write advertising slogans for TSS all day if I wanted to. But all the words in the world cannot begin to tell a person what sets Texas Select apart from anything you can ever put in your kitchen.

What makes Texas Select so special can be summed up very easily for our family: Bill and Barb Powell and the Texas Select family.

Every great "homestyle" cook knows that you can hit every 5 star restaurant you can find, and the food might be good, but nothing can ever touch what comes through generations of family spending time in the kitchen, adding a pinch of this and a pinch of that, perfecting dishes with love of what they are doing for their families. Dishes that are passed through families on recipe cards and stored in little boxes for generations.

Bill and Barb have brought generations of their family to our home with Texas Select, and the love and pride that they put into their products put a stamp on Texas Select products that put them heads and shoulders above anything else you will ever try. The ingredients are of the highest quality, but for our family, the true quality of Texas Select comes from the special meaning the products have for the wonderful people that have decided to share their family with ours.

Spices that are so perfectly blended you pick them up and recipe ideas will flood your head. When I cook with TSS my boys come out in the kitchen noses up an spoons in hand. Those rat boys never liked to cook much but my excitement since we discovered TSS is contagious, and now there is going to be a whole new generation of great cooks to make life easier for their wives!

Salsas that tell you the time of year in Santa Fe by the flavor of the home grown produce that is used in every jar. Salsa that we order by the case.

If I had a nickel for every time I have seen products that are advertised as being "homestyle", I would be rich.

If I had a nickel for every product I tried that delivered what "homestyle" means to me, I would have one nickel, and call it my Texas Select five cent piece!

I am proud to share these TSS recipes with everyone who wants to try them, they represent some very special times to me, time spent with my boys during the making of them, and time spent with family and friends enjoying them. I believe that anyone who enjoys cooking will try TSS one time and join the family, I just ask that once you do, you share your creations with Bill and Barb and the rest of us!
